Colares Portugal

Colares is a Portuguese parish in the council of Sintra, with an area of 33.97 square kilometers and 7,472 inhabitants (2001). The density amounts to 226.0 inhabitants / km². The patron saint of the town is Our Lady of the Assumption. It is located in the southwest of Sintra, on the Atlantic coast. It was the seat of an old municipality, between 1255 and 1855, having been promoted to the category of town on July 24, 1997. The municipality was made up of a single parish, that of Colares, and in 1801 it had 1,930 inhabitants and 3,341 inhabitants in 1849 .
